Dump the Junk Mail

Junk mail has a funny way of creeping in and taking over our countertops and wreaking havoc in our lives. We flip through flyers thinking about the things we might need some day or the restaurants we haven’t tried or the next program we should sign up for. This junk then becomes another thing to do… maybe… someday. Then the junk gets thrown into the pile with the other unmade decisions.

So much for a paperless society, right! Information is coming at us faster than ever before in this digital age and we have tons of information at our fingertips when we need it. But still that junk mail demands its presence in our home.

If you’re ready to tackle the junk mail, start by managing it as it comes into the house. Just Say No To The Junk! When you bring in the mail, head straight to the trash and dump the junk.

Now here are a few ways you can get off of junk mail lists…

Take notice of any catalogs you might be getting and don’t need. You can call the company and ask to be taken off their list or sign up for a free account at Catalog Choice and they will do it for you.
Obviously.com has a comprehensive DIY guide to stop junk mail, email and phone calls.
Just like the national Do Not Call Registry, Forest Ethics is campaigning to start a national Do Not Mail Registry. In the meantime, they offer opt-out forms that will allow you to contact some of the largest junk mail offenders.

Great idea! We live in an apartment, and right next to our mailboxes, they have a garbage exclusively for junk mail! I open my mail box, flip through and pick out the junk before I even close and lock my mail box! As for flyers, I get them from our building entrance, on whatever day I am menu planning & making my grocery list. I go through, see whats on sale that we NEED then or that I can use as a meal that week. Then I write down whats on sale where and for how much, clip it to my grocery list & menu then THROW OUT the fliers. They are in my house for less then an hour! Makes life so much easier and means a lot less junk!!! Sometimes though, I will be honest, I keep some of the junk mail, the papers and stuff that can be used to make paper machete! Works WONDERS!!!! But I ONLY do that on a week when I KNOW for a fact I am planning that activity with my daughter!!! I rip it up immediately and put it in our “paper machete tray” as we call it, when its full, we have enough for a project! Thats the ONLY time I keep junk mail or fliers though!!!

we don’t keep any junk mail. it used to go straight to the recycling bin, but now my son loves to look through them and point out the store logos that he recognizes. so we tend to have a few strewn throughout the house for him!

Who can I contact about this situation: on Thursdays I receive a “No Frills” flyer on its own AS WELL as within a sealed bag of flyers. On. The. Same. Day.
